Crump
May 21, 1916 — Apr 6, 2019
Louis M Crump
Louis M. Crump, age 102, of San Saba went to his eternal home with his family by his side on Saturday April 6, 2019. Louis Crump was born in the Coleman Junction Community in Coleman County Texas. Louis was born on May 21, 1916 to John L. Crump and Patty Wheeler Crump on their family farm. He graduated from Santa Anna High School.
He married the love of his life Lurline Langston in 1939. She preceded Louis in Death in 1987. Louis obtained his law degree at Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tennessee where he had relatives he could live with while attending school. Louis returned to Texas to practice law. His first political office was as the Coleman County Attorney in 1940 in Coleman, Texas.
After World War II, Louis Crump moved to San Saba, Texas and opened a law practice. In 1958, he was elected to the Texas Senate from the 18 th District, an area from Brownwood to Uvalde. Louis served 8 years in the Senate where he was a highly devoted man of the people and accomplished many things for his constituents and the state of Texas. During that time, he was elected as President Pro Tempore, the second highest ranking official of the Texas Senate. He also served as Governor of Texas when the constituency honored him with a Governor For A Day celebration. In 1968 Louis decided to run for District Attorney. He felt it would be an opportunity to help people, and he found that it was his true calling. Louis served as the District Attorney for this area from 1969-1984.
When asked if he had ever had to prosecute someone prominent, perhaps someone who had supported his re-election bids, Louis answered by saying that "to me everybody is prominent and everyone is entitled to be treated fairly. I don't care what side of the bench they are on, and that's the rule I have maintained." After his retirement as District Attorney in 1984, Louis continued his practice here in San Saba. Louis always had a smile on his face and enjoyed spending time with friends and family. He was a member of San Saba's First Baptist Church.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are one daughter, Elaine Slayton and husband Marshall of Richland Springs, Texas; one granddaughter, Dana Bourke and husband Tim of San Marcos, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Ally Bourke of San Marcos, Texas. Louis was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and three brothers Jack, Bud and John.
