Obituary

Linda Darlene Furry Payne, a cherished member of the Brownwood, TX community, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2024, at the age of 77. Born on January 2, 1947, in Brownwood, TX, Linda lived a life full of love, hard work, and devotion to her family and passions.

Linda earned her master's degree in counseling from Howard Payne University in Brownwood, TX. She dedicated most of her career to serving as a Vocational Counselor for the Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services, where she made a lasting impact on many lives.

An inventive spirit, Linda loved to tinker with electricity and spent countless hours mining for gold in the mountains of New Mexico. Her creative side was expressed through her love of painting, bringing color and joy to those around her.

Above all, Linda was a dedicated and hardworking woman who found immense joy in providing for her family. She was actively involved in the lives of her granddaughters, always present at their sports events, and took great pride in the achievements of her great-grandchildren.

Linda is survived by her beloved daughter, Lila Mobley and husband Michael Mobley; her grandchildren, Alisha Smith and husband Austin Smith, and Heather Burkhart and husband Haustin Burkhart; and her great-grandchildren, Cooper Burkhart, Jaxon Burkhart, Brennan Smith, Kymri Burkhart, and Sebastian Smith. She is also survived by her sisters, Joy Price and husband Roy Price, and Judy Trollinger and husband Michael Trollinger.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Odessa MacGuire Furry and James Thurman Furry, and her brother, Larry Furry.

A visitation for Linda Darlene Furry Payne will be held on Sunday, July 21, 2024, from 3-5 pm, at Blaylock Funeral Home in Brownwood. Graveside services will take place at Windham Cemetery at Byrd's Store on Monday, July 22, 2024. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Corine T. Smith Animal Shelter in Brownwood, TX, a cause close to Linda's heart.

Linda's legacy of love, dedication, and creativity will continue to live on through her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
