Jimmie Doris Korenek
Jimmie Doris Korenek, age 94, of Richland Springs passed away Monday, April 11, 2022, at Hendrick Medical Center in Brownwood. Graveside Services for Jimmie will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 15, 2022, at the Richland Springs Cemetery Pavilion. Jimmie was born on December 9, 1927, to Anson and Macie (Eckert) Garrett in the Locker community. She attended and graduated from Richland Springs High School. After high school, she joined the Army Corps of Nursing in San Angelo. During her time in the Corps the nursing program moved over to San Angelo State College. Jimmie graduated from San Angelo State College with a Bachelor of Science in nursing. As her husband was in the Air Force, Jimmie worked as a nurse in many major hospitals where they were stationed. After her husband retired, she worked at Memorial Hospital in Brownwood and then moved to the new, at that time, Brownwood Regional Medical Center. She eventually retired from Brady Hospital in Brady, Texas.
Jimmie was an avid and talented quilter, a skill she learned from her grandmother. She often gifted her quilts to family and friends. Gardening was also a passion which was evidenced by her beautiful yard and flower beds.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her 3 daughters: Patricia Ann Hardman and husband Kelly Mims of Brownwood, Macie Jean Jeffcoats of Richland Springs, and Karla Kay Lane of Lometa; her 5 grandchildren, Bradley Hardman and wife Mary, Aaron Smith and wife Collette, Ben Smith, Sammy Korenek, and Amanda Johnson; seven great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Korenke; a daughter, Becky Sue Korenek; parents, Anson and Macie Garrett; and her 2 brothers, Joe Bob Garrett and Samuel Alfred Garrett.
