James Kern

James Everett Kern, 68, of Brownwood Texas, passed away Saturday September 7, 2024.

Funeral Services for James will be held at 2:00pm Thursday September 12, 2024, at Blaylock Funeral Home Chapel in Brownwood with the Reverend Wayne Lewis officiating; burial will follow at Zephyr Cemetery in Zephyr Texas.  Family will be accepting visitors on Wednesday September 11, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Blaylock Funeral Home.  Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.

James Kern was born on October 21, 1955 to Hershell and Agnes (Ward) Kern in Tunica, Mississippi. James was one of twelve children and spent much of his childhood moving around working in several states. James met Susan Darlene Funderburg and they were married on October 15, 1982 in Brownwood.

James and Susan lived in Zephyr Texas for most of their married life where they raised 4 boys.  They spent countless hours of time at sporting events and rodeos.  James was also a man of many talents, known for his paint, body work, and mechanical repairs of vehicles.  He was a master plumber and owned his own plumbing business for many years. He was also a welder.  Mr. Kern was a member of the Zephyr Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Kern. His children, James (Tooter) King, wife Suzan of Dublin; Adam Funderburg, wife Stephanie of Mexia; Justin Kern of Zephyr, Jeffery Kern of Zephyr.

His grandchildren Kaitlyn Williams, Clay Funderburg (Caroline), Gage Funderburg (Kathyrn), Zane Funderburg, Olivia Olson, Orin Kern (Kandyce), Halle Kern, and Hanna Kern.

Great-grandchildren Brynlynn Williams, Tustin Williams, Kayson Funderburg, Brysten Funderburg, Kooper Funderburg, L.J. Calhoon, Willow Caraway and Mia Lara.

Brothers, Carl Irvin;wife Rachel of Florida, Larry Gene; wife Judy of Arkansas, and Ronnie (Doodle); wife Teresa of Florida.

James is preceded in death by his parents, Hershell-Bryant Kern and Agnes Ward, Jordan Kern, Haylee Kern, Maria Kern. Brothers Thomas Horner, Hershell Bryant (Chubby), Bobby Leon (Bill), and Michael Wesley.  His sisters Maxine Medina, Geraldine Kern, Linda Williams, and Earline Hicks.

Pallbearers will be Clay Funderburg, Zane Funderburg, Jason Boyd, Orin Kern, James Seiler, Ray Salazar.  Honorary pallbearer Gage Funderburg.
