Obituary

Jacky (Jack) Clyde Platter, 65, of Brownwood, Texas, passed into eternity to be with his Lord and Savior at his home on September 6, 2026. Jack was born in Brownwood, Texas, to Jimmy and Carol Platter on May 30, 1961, the only boy of six children.

He attended Brookesmith High School, worked in the oil field for several years, and later went into maintenance.

Jack loved fishing and tinkering with small gas engines and electric motors. He loved working with power tools, just like his dad. He wasn’t the perfect person, but then again, none of us are perfect. Jack had his own unique way of doing things, but he had a really big heart and would always try to help whenever he could.

Jack worked maintenance at the Brownwood Manor and was known for going above and beyond to help the elderly residents. Of course, being Jack, that sometimes included playing a prank or two on them. Helping people was important to him, even if he occasionally made them question his methods.

Jack was a sometimes rotten, but fun, kid and a good brother to his five sisters. He could certainly be rotten to them, but he would never let anyone else give them any guff. He never met a stranger and had several friends all over the great state of Texas.

Jack was always fun to be around, and the stories he could tell were comical and memorable. He could always get the laugh, even when his humor was a little off color. Sometimes it was more than a little off color. He had a way of saying exactly what was on his mind, whether you were ready to hear it or not.

Jack was “Uncle Jack” to many people, even if they weren’t his actual nieces and nephews. He was blessed to be a big part of Dustin Sanchez, Dacoda Russell, Jasmine Sowell, Abby, and Alex’s lives. They put a smile on his face every time he got to see them.

In his older years, Jack could operate a crutch better than anyone you ever met and could drive a mobility scooter like a madman. If there was a way to turn getting around into an adventure, Jack was probably going to find it.

Jack is survived by his companion, Donna Baldwin; four sisters, Brenda Hutchens, Belinda Minica and husband Cotton, Jimmie Carol Paz, Melody Henderson and husband Troy, and brother-in-law Greg Dibrell. He is also survived by several nephews, nieces, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy and Carol Platter of Brownwood, and his oldest sister, Becky Dibrell.

Jack had his faults, his stubborn streak, his questionable sense of humor, and more than his share of ways of getting into trouble. But he also had a big heart, loved his family and friends, and was always willing to help when someone needed him. He left behind a lot of stories, a lot of laughs, and a lot of people who are going to miss having Jack around to give them a hard time.
