Obituary

Edythe Yvonne Cottrell

(February 5, 1943 - June 7, 2024)

Edythe Yvonne Cottrell was called by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, to her Heavenly home on Friday, June 7th, 2024, at the age of 81.

Yvonne was born Edythe Yvonne Turner on February 5th, 1943 in Brady, Texas to Clifton and Juanita Turner and sister to siblings Betty Glaze, Lewis Turner, and Jack Turner. She graduated from Richland Springs High School at the young age of 17 and quickly had her eye on a young man who had just come back from serving in the US Army, Larry Wayne Cottrell. Larry and Yvonne were married on September 23,1960 in Brady,TX at Larry's sister Rachel's house and started their marriage as a couple in Brownwood, TX. The couple welcomed their son, Wade, in 1961 and 14 short years later, their daughter, Angie.

During those early years, Yvonne worked during the day at GTE and went to night classes at Howard Payne University to earn her Bachelors in Accounting. Yvonne advanced to managing Sales at GTE and led her team to winning numerous awards and cruise vacations. But that wasn't enough for Yvonne, she loved to learn! She went on to earn her second Bachelors in Computer Science along with a teaching certificate. After retiring from GTE, Yvonne taught Accounting and Computer Science at Brady High School from which she earned her second retirement.

Everyone who knew Yvonne, knew that she didn't like to stay idle for very long. She loved to spend her spare time reading, competing in 42 domino tournaments, and gardening just to name a few things. She also enjoyed music! And everyone knew who her favorite singer was….ELVIS (Thank you, thank you very much)! But her love of music went beyond listening. Yvonne was a talented pianist who enjoyed playing on Sunday at church for many years as well as singing specials. And those "specials" extended to her grandchildren, when she would sing as she rocked them to sleep in her arms.

Yvonne is preceded in death by her parents, Clifton and Juanita Turner, and her brother, Lewis Turner. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Larry Cottrell; son, Wade Cottrell and his wife, Charis of Cedar Park, TX; daughter, Angie Hulsman and her husband, Edward of Anderson, TX; grandchildren, Cade Cottrell, Zachary Cottrell, Charli Kay Cottrell, Avery Hulsman, and Emberly Hulsman; sister, Betty Glaze of Bangs, TX; brother, Jack Turner and his wife, Judy of Lake Brownwood, TX; and her dog, Angel.
