Obituary

Donald Wayne Sherwood, known to many as Don, was born on November 18, 1970, in Georgetown, Texas. He passed away peacefully at the age of 55 on Labor Day, September 7, 2026, in Zephyr, Texas.

Don is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Charleen Carothers; his two daughters, Jasmine Moore and Sara Barnes McNair; his father, Terry Wayne Sherwood; his mother, Charlette Warren; his brother, William Dean Sherwood; and his sister, Tonya Sherwood.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Terry Wayne (TW) Sherwood, and his grandmother, Louise Boutwell.

Don held a special place in his heart for his grandmother Louise, who served as a meaningful parental figure and role model throughout his life, particularly during his high school years. Her husband, a respected Williamson County Sheriff, was also a profound influence on Don, who remained close to his grandmother throughout his life until her passing in 2023.

A 1989 graduate of Georgetown High School, Don answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps, where he served with distinction for nine years and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Following his military service, Don built a fulfilling career, working as a postal carrier for ten years, followed by work in tile laying and electrical maintenance technology, a position he held for more than a decade before his retirement.

Don was a true outdoorsman who cherished hunting, fishing, and camping. His love for the outdoor and ranching lifestyle inspired him to pursue his dream of owning a ranch. Together with Charleen, he realized this goal when they purchased their beautiful 103-acre ranch in Zephyr, Texas, located twelve miles east of Brownwood.

Known for his competitive spirit, Don was an accomplished pool player who competed in tournaments. His friends remember him as someone who brought joy and laughter to every gathering—a social butterfly with a gift for making others smile. During his military service, he volunteered for the soccer club and was recognized for his contributions. Among his peers, Don was noted as an exceptional marksman.

Don was an avid traveler whose greatest joy came from exploring the world alongside his adored wife and family. Together, they wove a lifetime of cherished memories, journeying through the Caribbean, Central America, Western and Southern Europe, and across the United States. He held particularly fond memories of discovering the timeless beauty of Mexico, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Portugal, France, and Greece, as well as the breathtaking wilderness of Alaska—destinations that remained close to his heart throughout his adult life.

A Celebration of Life will be held in mid to late October (date to be determined) at an event center in Andice, Texas. For more information, please text Charleen Carothers at 512-966-8621. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider a donation to Tunnel to Towers (t2t.org), a foundation dedicated to supporting injured veterans, first responders, and their families.

Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood in charge of arrangements.
