David R. Carroll Sr.
September 22, 1940 – August 9, 2026
David R. Carroll Sr., 85, died Aug 9, 2026, in Brownwood, TX after a short illness. He was born in Coleman, Texas to LTC Onie Carroll and Dorthy Carroll.
He lived a typical young life as the son of an Air Force officer living in many states including Mississippi, Colorado, and Texas. His home base throughout life has always been close to family in Coleman and Brown Counties.
David married Brenda Clark of Brownwood on January 3, 1961. They were married 52 years until her passing in 2012. Their family grew to four when they welcomed sons David and Troy. The young family eventually settled in Brownwood, TX in 1969. He started his own appliance business, Carroll Appliance, in 1969 until it was sold in 1995. He served as a Brown County Commissioner and worked as a Brown County Elections clerk.
David and Brenda loved traveling. They went on many trips including eight cruises, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, France, Scotland, England, Greece and Hawaii. David had a servant's heart. Devoted to Brown County and the surrounding communities both in business and politics. He was a member of Masonic Lodge, Shriners, Commandry, and Jaycees. He also spent countless time with lifelong friend and brother-in-law, Melvin Felch, serving Lions Club.
He enjoyed his days at the Brownwood Senior Citizens Center where he met Laneta Keeton. The Center was always something new and fun. They were married on February 15, 2014. They enjoyed seven years of marriage until her passing in 2021. He also loved Sunday morning service at Salt Creek Baptist Church where he was a member. One of the best attributes was his caring heart, a caretaker. Giving the best advice a father, grandfather, uncle or friend could give. Whether you liked it or not. It was his honest opinion. A steadfast Republican, MAGA blood thru and thru.
David is survived by children Dr. David R. Carroll Jr. (Cassie) and Lt. Troy Carroll (Jenifer), Calvin Keeton, and Tammy Keeton. Grandchildren Brittany Sawyer (Cory), Matthew Carroll, Austin Carroll (Amanda), Madison Carroll, Mason Glaze, Gray Glaze, Cason Carroll (Kerry), Kaleigh Hopson (Tristan), and Kaleb Hopson (Catherine), Charlie Edwards, Collin Keeton.
